“Arthur G. Duemmel was the second Saint Mary parishioner selected to receive the Catholic Man of the Year award, Ollie Rueckel was the first. Art was a graduate of Saint Mary High School class of 1926. Art had been the choir director and organist at Saint Mary since 1967. For twenty-five years before that, he played the organ at Alum Crest and helped bring patients from their rooms to the chapel for Mass. Besides playing the organ at Saint Mary, he also acted as general handyman and custodian. Art swept the sidewalks, shoveled snow, cleaned the church and planted flowers around the church. He was a lector at Sunday Mass, a member of the Liturgical Committee and attended the weekly Bible and prayer study groups.” - by Ed Quickert
